Movie Review: Goodnight, and Good Luck by George Clooney

October 12, 2015 by Quirks Leave a Comment

Some of the greatest films ever produced tackled the integrity of journalism in the face of political crises or plain human greed e.g. All The President’s Men and the Watergate Scandal, Network and the Mad World of Television, The Devil Wears Prada and the fashion industry. Actually, Prada is all about Meryl Streep and fashion magazines are hardly examples of responsible journalism. But I greatly like the movie Prada, hence the commercial plug.

A Film by George Clooney – Review

Film Review - Good Night and Good Luck

George Clooney’s Good Night, and Good Luck released December 2005,  is set in the 1950s at a time when television broadcast journalism was just conquering American households. David Straithairn, George Clooney, Robert Downey, Jr. and their team of CBS reporters ran a newsmagazine program called See It Now. Good Night, and Good Luck examined the circumstances of See It Now’s critical coverage on Senator Joe McCarthy, specifically his policies or procedures in eliminating suspected Communist elements in the government. Practically everything in Good Night, and Good Luck is outstanding — the performances, editing, cinematography, screenplay and Dianne Reeves soulful music, which exquisitely encapsulates the moods of the film. This film had undoubtedly joined the ranks of All The President’s Men and Network; and I wish Pinoys could also produce such equally intelligent films.

If you want to watch a good film that will make you think, hunt Goodnight, and Goodluck.

Happy viewing!
